At the end of each Girls on the Run 10 week session, the girls participate in a Celebration 5k event. This non-competitive event is the culminating experience of the curriculum. Completing the 5k gives the girls a tangible understanding of the confidence that comes through accomplishment as well as a framework for setting and achieving life goals. Crossing the finish line is a defining moment when the girls realize that even the seemingly impossible IS possible. Even our volunteers are moved by the positivity and empowering atmosphere of our 5k, as they witness, first hand, the results of our program. In short, our program is simple, engaging and extraordinary…resulting in healthy, confident girls AND VOLUNTEERS who “can”.

Dear Girls on the Run-
A friend of mine “volunteered” me to help at your race last Sunday. I told my friend, “you owe me for this one!” But by the end of the day, I was telling her, “we’re doing this again!” I’ve run in many 5ks and 10ks, and have always been mindful of thanking the volunteers, but I’ve never been one. Volunteering for your event was eye opening. It was so well organized and everyone was smiling. My friend and I were placed along the running path to cheer for the girls and help them stay on the route. When all the kids had passed our section of the route we went to help at the finish line. Some kids were walking, others were sprinting for the finish line–but all of them had huge smiles and cheers for each other. I know that feeling of, “I’ve got this!” and could see it on their faces.
So, I just wanted to tell you that I think it’s a great program and that I’m looking forward to volunteering again.
See you soon-
