INCLEMENT WEATHER FOR 5K:

Rain will not stop the event from occurring and we ask that you dress appropriately. In the event of lightning or severe weather, the race will be delayed or cancelled. Depending on weather, the run will be postponed in 30 minute increments, up to 60 minutes. After that, the run will be cancelled. If delayed or cancelled, communication will be posted one hour in advance of the scheduled start time or prior. Notifications of delayed start or cancellation can be found on the Girls on the Run Facebook page and Website (www.gotrdetroit.org). We ask that coaches check on the website or facebook page 1-hour before their event start time and notify their teams of any cancellations or delays. In the unlikely event of lightning on the course after the run has already started, the following protocol will take place:

  • Once lightning is spotted, course marshals along the route will notify runners using black flags, cancelling the run.
  • Upon sight of a black flag, coaches, children and adult  runners, as well as  family fans should immediately return to their designated  Zone (team meeting spot).
  • Coaches should do a headcount of their team and no child should be released unless in the custody of an approved and trusted adult.
  • Parents/guardians, please ensure that you return to your designated Zone to communicate with your coach that you have your child and are leaving with your child.
